Thank you to everyone who’s voted for me ^^ As promised, here’s some Chanyeol as requested by someone simply called anon!
Gah, today was the day that partners would be chosen for the biggest assignment of the semester! How could you forget? Walking into the classroom and seeing everyone talking about it made you lower your head in silent embarrassment.
Of course, you couldn’t select your own partners. You wished you could, as you’d choose someone you knew you’d accomplish plenty with. Now, it was in fate’s hands, and that scared you a bit.
Looking around the room to see your potential companions, your heart dropped. No. You prayed that you would not be paired up with…
Oh, Park Chanyeol… where to begin? He was the typical class clown, always causing harmless trouble on a consistent basis. However, when you were there to learn, the last thing you wanted to deal with was distractions.
You knew if you were paired up with him, you’d end up failing the project, and the course along with it. He would never take it seriously. He would never take anything seriously.
The teacher finally strode in, a small bucket in hand. Small slips of paper filled the container nearly to the brim.
“Now class, it’s time to select partners for the upcoming research project!” she declared in a shrill voice, the kind that made you want to walk right up and rip them…
“And let me guess, all of you have partners in mind, correct?” she continued, breaking your rather morbid thought process.
A crowd of heads bobbed their approval, only to have their hopes shot down.
“Well unfortunately, you probably won’t be working with them. It stated in the syllabus that you would be breaking your comfort zones and working with randomized groups often…”
Everyone had read this, without a doubt, but no one took it seriously. Why would they? How often do the small details like that end up happening? Groans could be heard from every side.
You, on the other hand, didn’t mind a bit who you ended up with. Well, as long as they held up their end of the work…
“PARK CHANYEOL!” you heard the old bat shriek. “Come on up and select your partner!”
With a hop in his step, the messy haired boy approached the old woman. His hand dug into the bucket, going deeper and deeper with a look of mock concentration on his face until the others began to complain.
“Hurry up, Chanyeol! Let’s get this show on the road!” one of his friends whose name you knew to be Baekhyun shouted.
“Fine!” he yelled back. “God, what buzz kills…” you could swear you heard him mutter under his breath. Sounded to you like your earlier prediction was on track to be accurate.
His hand finally emerged in a triumphant fist, several slips sticking out of it at haphazard angles. He plucked a single piece out with his opposite hand and dropped the crumpled remains back into the container.
A smile was plastered on his face as he unfolded the paper and read it briefly. He held the paper up, and if you didn’t know any better, you’d say it sounded like your name he called out.
As eyes turned to you with a look of pity, you knew it was your name he had called.
He skipped over to you with a merry expression, contrasting yours of complete disgust. Hell, you would have even taken wide-eyed dazed Kyungsoo over this idiot. At least Kyungsoo would probably put in an effort.
He took his place in the empty desk beside yours, and looked at you with that shit-eating grin everyone had grown so accustomed to seeing from him.
You decided it best to lay down the law immediately, not allowing for any diversion from your already forming game plan.
“Listen here, Park, I’m not going to let you ruin my grade with your attention whore antics, so listen up. You will meet me at the library after school every day this week and next. You will work, or else your life will be a living hell. Got it?”
Luckily, he got the picture, replying to your demand with only a look of sheer terror.
The bell rang, and you strode out of the room, dreading the end of the day and the massive headache that was sure to come with it.
With this in mind, the day flew by, and before you knew it, you had already walked halfway to the town library.
“WAIT UP!” you heard a distinctive voice yell from behind you. Sure enough, there was Park Chanyeol, out of breath and panting.
“Couldn’t- we- have just- walked- together?” he asked, sounding like he would pass out any second.
“To be honest, I didn’t expect you to show up,” you admitted.
“Oh come on- you couldn’t give me- at least a bit of- credit?”
“Give me one reason why I should have,” you challenged. The look on his face said he lacked a retort, so you turned on your heel and continued onward to the library, speedy footsteps easily audible behind you.
“So… what are we doing the project on?” he innocently asked you. Unfortunately, with so much on the line, you weren’t in the mood to deal with ‘innocent’.
“Well, if you were paying attention, you’d know we’re working on a major Korean advancement in technology. For your sake, we’ll use something Samsung has done. You should know something about that.”
“I’m not stupid…” you heard him mutter under his breath, hoping you wouldn’t hear, clearly.
“Until you prove to me otherwise, I’ll have to make the assumption that you are based on past behavior. Prove me wrong, fine.”
“I’ll prove you wrong within the first half hour,” he bragged. “And if I do, you’ll have to do something for me.”
Figuring the task to be impossible, you took him up on the offer, sealing it with a firm handshake.
Upon entering the library, he made a beeline for the nearest computer, and within that half hour, you had to admit, the information he found in that time frame was impressive.
“I don’t get it,” you thought out loud.
“Don’t get what?” he asked.
“I don’t understand… you clearly have the potential to be a straight A student,” you said, motioning to the printed proof. “Why do you choose to act like a jackass all the time?”
“Excuse me, that’s Mr. Jackass to you,” he teased, eliciting a glare from you. “Okay okay, it’s simple really.”
“People don’t like the smart kids. I mean look at you- no offense,” he said. Although a little offended, you knew he was right and continued. “No one would notice me if I focused more on my academics so… I basically whore myself out for attention. I figure it’s better than being just another person stuck in the crowd.”
“That’s insane,” you told him.
“Maybe to you, but to me, it makes all the sense in the world. Besides, there’s a certain girl who only notices my existence if I’m ‘Mr. Jackass’, even if she does hate me.”
“Maybe she isn’t worth it then-“
“Oh, she’s worth it,” he cut you off. “By the way, you still owe me something, considering you have basically admitted that I have proven you wrong.”
You hated to admit it, but he had you pinned. “Alright, what do you want?” you asked with a sigh.
While your eyes were rolled, you felt his lips press against yours softly. They were taken away almost instantly.
The look on Chanyeol’s face when he pulled away signified that even he was shocked with his actions.
“I have to go,” he said in a single breath, running out of the library doors at a speed you had never thought possible.
But now, that left you with a surprised expression of your own, sitting near a library computer with pages of information about the first mp3 player you now weren’t sure what to do with.
One simple thought ran through your head…
What the hell just happened?
